On recording concerts with your phone
I went to see the GHOST show and it was a no-phone show, and so all the phones are in baggies. Oh my God — the difference. It was astonishing. —Bruce Dickinson
We experienced the same when we were at the Ghost concert. It was a completely different vibe. The sense of community was larger.
Same thing yesterday. I attended another metal concert. I saw only a few snapshots and the phones were back in their pockets. It seemed the right way. The polite way. You’re there to enjoy the performance.
“As I said before, by all means take the odd quick pic as a memento of a great night,” he added, “but otherwise please keep your phone in your pocket.” — Rod Smallwood (Maiden manager)
A completely justified request. I do not understand the recording a whole song on your phone. You’re going to get a shit picture with even worse audio. And have you ever played it back after? Unlikely.
Why record a fleeting moment instead of gaining the full experience.
